About Helena Price Hambrecht: Helena Price Hambrecht is the co-founder and Co-CEO of Haus, the brand creating products for how we gather today. Prior to Haus, Helena was a Silicon Valley creative who helped shape brands like Facebook, Fitbit, Google, Instagram, Microsoft, Nike, Pinterest, Slack, Square, Twitter and Uber. Her work has been featured on ABC, CNN, The New York Times, Fast Company, Fortune, Glamour, The Guardian, and Inc. Her Story: "Early in my career Silicon Valley startups were starting to explode but there was this huge gap in brand creative. There were these massive tech companies but no one was producing the creative to visually tell their stories. So I started Dagmar Studios to fill that gap, and went on to work with some of the biggest brands in tech like Instagram, Google, Fitbit, Uber, Facebook. A couple years ago I ran into a dilemma - like most busy professionals today, I was constantly doing social things as part of my job. And I got sick of the alcohol options out there and the way I was feeling as a result. They were too sugary, too alcoholic, too artificial. I started doing some research, and saw that I wasn’t alone. Millennials trends skewed towards a preference to drink at home, lower-ABV options, and a different type of gathering that promotes real over perfect. I realized we needed new products to meet the generational shift in gathering culture that’s happening today. My husband, who happens to be a 3rd generation winemaker, and I decided to do something about it. We launched Haus to create the products for how we actually gather today, and we’re starting with alcohol, an industry that hasn’t changed in nearly 100 years. We’re actually the first company to sell alcohol on the internet, thanks to a crazy loophole. This means we can totally rethink how it’s done from product to distribution. Owning production and eventually retail is cost intensive, but means we can create a really strong lifestyle brand Our first 1m raise took 8 months and about 500 pitches. Our second raise took four days. We invested a lot in building a really strong brand and creating the product we felt this generation needs. And it's resonating. Over the summer we launched our apéritifs, and our first flavor Citrus Flower sold out again and again. We’re excited with where we are today, but this is really just the beginning for us. We’re planning to create other products, experiences and editorial for how today’s generation gathers." In today’s episode you will learn:
